Choose a footprint that leaves the room usable.
Measure circulation first
A sofa should not turn the path from entry to kitchen into an obstacle course. Mark its width and depth with painter's tape, then walk the route with the coffee table and open doors in mind. In a studio, also think about the view from the bed and whether the sofa visually blocks the window.
Use dimensions, not seat count
'Three-seater' is a loose label. Compare overall width, actual seat width, arm thickness, and chaise projection in inches. A slim arm can give more seating within the same wall length. If a deep lounge sofa reduces your walkway, a compact loveseat plus an occasional chair may be more flexible.
Leave breathing room around a sofa; usable floor space is part of comfort.
