Buy for the room you have and the move that may come.
Make three measurements
Record the living room footprint, the delivery route, and the largest piece you could move out later. A compact boxed delivery can help on move-in, but ask how the expanded sofa separates. Tape candidate sizes on the floor before being persuaded by a sale photograph.
Prioritize fundamentals
Choose a seat height and depth you like, a cleaning plan you understand, and return terms you can afford. A neutral color may be flexible, but not if it demands care you cannot provide. A movable ottoman can add flexibility without a permanent chaise.
A first sofa should make the apartment usable now without becoming a problem at the next address.
