Where the value is real
If a third-floor walk-up has a narrow turn, a smaller box may solve a delivery problem that a handsome traditional sofa cannot. It can also make an apartment move less awkward. But a compact shipment does not automatically make the purchase cheaper: compare the total with delivery, taxes, assembly, and possible return shipping.
Where to be skeptical
Pay attention to seat height, support near the edge, cushion recovery, and fabric care. A low, deeply cushioned sofa can be wonderful for lounging and less convenient for someone who prefers upright seating. Read the return policy before opening the vacuum seal; some sellers require original packaging even though recompressing at home is unrealistic.
It is worth it when the finished sofa fits your room and body—not simply because the carton fits your hallway.
