Pressure and recovery
Foam contains tiny cells. Packaging compresses it for transport; opening the wrap lets it recover toward its designed shape. A foldable cover or modular layout helps the product fit into a carton. This is different from a conventional framed sofa that ships in large rigid pieces. The exact construction matters more than the label on the listing.
Read the construction details
Check whether the seat is all foam, foam over springs, or foam over a frame; whether covers can be removed; and whether modules connect. Ask for boxed weight if stairs are involved. Unbox in the room where the sofa will stay, with enough clearance around it to expand safely. Follow the maker's timing and setup directions rather than a general internet rule.
A sofa that ships compactly can still feel soft, firm, low, or tall; compression alone tells you little about everyday comfort.
