What 'fully expanded' really means when buying online.
Shape is a design target
A well-made sofa should recover toward its advertised finished dimensions after correct unboxing. Still, fabric folds and foam edges may not look identical to a styled product photograph. Photography, lighting, and cushion dressing affect appearance. Look for actual finished dimensions and construction notes, not a vague 'cloud-like' claim.
Make a useful comparison
Measure width, depth, and height after the stated recovery period, using the same points shown in the listing. Photograph any uneven areas next to a ruler and ask the seller how to remedy them. Avoid promising yourself that a clearly uncomfortable seat will magically become supportive later. Recovery of shipping compression and long-term durability are separate questions.
Choose a seller that tells you how it handles shape problems rather than relying on reassuring adjectives.
