Look closely at the surface
Bouclé's loops can create a soft nubby appearance but may catch on claws or snagging objects. Chenille varies widely by fiber and weave; corduroy's channels can show direction and collect debris. None of these labels tells you the exact cleaning method. Request a swatch and the manufacturer's care code.
Try it in your light
Texture changes with daylight and touch. Place a sample near your window, rub it with a dark sleeve to see lint, and consider how the nap may mark when brushed. For a high-traffic home, prioritize practical cleaning and construction over a fashionable photograph. Check whether the upholstery is fixed or removable.
Buy the texture you like living with at close range, not just the one that photographs well.
