Which dimension matters more in your room?
Width is not the whole story
Two sofas of equal width can behave very differently if one projects much farther into the room. A deep seat gives space to curl up, but can reduce the walkway and leave shorter people wanting back support. Compare overall depth and usable seat depth separately.
Match the sitting habit
For upright conversation or working from a laptop, a moderate depth may be easier. For movie nights, extra depth can be welcome if there is room for it. Sit against a sofa you already know and measure what feels good. A lumbar pillow can adjust a slightly deep seat; it cannot recover lost floor space.
Choose depth by both body and room, and do not treat 'oversized' as an automatic upgrade.
