A small room needs deliberate proportions, not tiny furniture everywhere.

Choose one focal seat

A simple sofa can anchor the room while narrow side tables and wall-mounted storage keep the floor free. Compare a loveseat, compact sofa, and sectional using taped footprints. A low back may preserve a sightline, but it will not provide the head support everyone wants. Think about where guests' feet, bags, and drinks go.

Look beyond width

Depth often causes the real crowding. Leave room to open a balcony door, walk to the kitchen, and pull out a desk chair. Avoid a chaise that traps the only route through the room. If you entertain occasionally, an accent chair you can move may beat a permanently oversized sofa.

A well-scaled sofa makes the apartment feel intentional, not merely full.
