Create seating that survives movement and mess.
Map how people gather
Think about where children play, where adults sit, and the route to the kitchen. A sectional can create a generous shared zone but may block access; sofa plus chairs offers more rearrangement. Tape the pieces in place and include a table and open doors in the plan.
Make maintenance visible
Choose care instructions the household can follow. Keep sharp table edges and unstable furniture away from high-traffic play areas. Allow access behind or under the sofa for cleaning. If a modular design is used, check that sections stay connected through ordinary use.
The best layout supports conversation and play without making every crossing a negotiation.
