A safe move starts with dimensions and help.

Make a route plan

Measure the sofa's largest rigid or expanded sections, door openings, stair landings, and vehicle cargo area. Remove cushions and detachable legs only when the maker allows it, then label small hardware. Protect corners, floors, and upholstery. A compressed sofa usually cannot be returned to its first shipping size.

Lift with a team

Check weight and arrange enough people; avoid carrying a bulky object that blocks your view of steps. Use appropriate straps or a dolly on suitable surfaces and secure the load in the vehicle. Do not force a turn; pause and rethink the angle. If stairs or weight exceed your ability, hiring help is cheaper than injury or damage.

Moving independently is sensible only when the route, equipment, and people are up to the job.
