Overall width includes the arms. Overall depth includes the back. Seat width, depth, and height determine how you actually sit, while arm height affects side tables and accessibility. Check whether a chaise measurement includes an ottoman or a fixed projection. Look for diagrams rather than copying a single number from the title.
Allow for variation
Rounded cushions and soft upholstery can settle differently from rigid furniture, so treat advertised dimensions as the manufacturer's reference, not a substitute for clearance. Check unit labels—US listings commonly use inches and pounds. If a detail is missing, request it in writing before ordering.
Use the interior seating dimensions for comfort and the overall dimensions for the room.
