Act on the spill
Blot liquid from the outside inward with a clean absorbent cloth. Lift solids carefully without grinding them into the weave. Then find the care code and the maker's instructions. Water, solvents, and detergents are not interchangeable across upholstery types.
Use the smallest treatment
Test the approved cleaner where it will not show, use little product, and avoid saturating foam beneath. Let the area dry before evaluating it; a damp patch can look darker temporarily. If a stain spreads or a ring appears, stop experimenting and seek appropriate professional help. Keep children and pets away from cleaning products.
A cautious first response often preserves more options than aggressive scrubbing.
