Count real sitting space
Measure inside-arm seat width, not only the total width. A compact sofa with thick arms may seat fewer people than expected. In a narrow room, a loveseat can leave space for a chair, side table, or more generous walking route. Think about whether two adults often sit together or whether one person mostly stretches out.
Consider future rooms
A loveseat may move through doorways more easily and fit a later bedroom or office. A full sofa can anchor a family room and be better for guests, provided the depth does not dominate the apartment. Sketch both layouts at scale before deciding. A modular pair may give flexibility but needs a stable connection.
Choose the seating pattern you actually use, not the maximum seat count advertised.
