Read the room edges
A straight sofa can line up cleanly with a wall and define a compact seating zone. A curved design can soften an open studio, but the curve often needs extra clearance behind or beside it. Modular pieces can adapt to a new arrangement, provided their connectors are secure.
Consider what the eye sees
Low arms and a moderate back can keep a studio feeling open. Large pillowy shapes may look cozy but consume visual and physical space. Tape an outline for the actual model, not a generic silhouette, and view it from the bed and entry. Check whether a curved seat loses useful interior width.
Choose the shape that improves both circulation and seating rather than the one that photographs best in an empty room.
