A smaller shipping carton helps, but measuring still matters.

Find the true opening

Measure the clear opening with the door fully open, accounting for hinges, trim, handles, and a tight turn immediately inside. If the sofa arrives as modules, compare each box and finished module to that route. Take photos of the narrowest point. A nominal 30-inch door does not always offer a full 30 inches of usable passage.

Plan the turn

Check hallway width, ceiling, and stair landing, not only the doorway. Remove permitted obstacles, protect walls, and use enough helpers for the load. Do not force a compressed box around a bend that would damage the contents. If a conventional sofa cannot pass, a modular design may be the better long-term answer.

Measure the route before ordering, and remember the next move will involve expanded furniture.
