Put function on paper

Count regular sitters, their favorite positions, and the path children take through the room. Measure enough interior width, not merely an advertised seat count. Check whether people can stand without collapsing the front edge. A deep lounge is enjoyable only if the room still has space to move.

Choose serviceable surfaces

Read the fabric care code, verify removable-cover washing instructions, and ask whether cushions or modules can be replaced. Consider a medium-tone textured fabric if it suits your light and cleaning habits. Look at warranty limits rather than relying on claims of being 'family-proof.'

The family-room winner is the one that stays comfortable and manageable on an ordinary busy day.
